i had to make a walk cycle for hw and it took forever but im kinda proud of it, even tho its not perfec at all LOL i still wanted to share my progress, as u may know im used to rigged animation, so trying hand drawn animation seemed scary to me ngl, but the process was still fun, despite being incredibly time consuming and a bit stressful
this was done using toon boom!!!
SKETCH:
honestly my goal was just to get the whole pose done and mainly focus on the legs, i think its easy to mess up on that part and since its a major part of a walk cycle its important to get it right, as best as you can. i'm not used to sketching animations, so this took forever
LINE ART:
SHADING:
I did not initially plan out the color, all i knnew was that her outfit would be pink of course. i was thinking of making her a white girl with tan skin and platnum blonde hair, because that looks sooo 2000s, but i also was in the mood to draw a black girl with brown hair (for me its the same effect as a pale girl with platnum blonde hair because its low contrast and low contrast and high contrast are both so striking to me) but i was in a low contrast mood so i went with the latter, i'm a little suprised that it doesnt look horrible LOL, esp because its frame by frame of all things..., but yeah the linart was done at school and my friend and i agreed to finish it all on monday, but when i got home i was thinking about how long the shading will take and decided to get the toonboom harmony free trial (because its only free on school computers sadly) and just do the shading so all i had to worry about on monday was just coloring and maybe a background if i'm feeling extra workaholic-y
then at school i finally did the coloring and i was feeling pretty proud of myself! it was comming together nicely, by my try hard arse always has to do the most LOL so... i would end up giving it a...
BACKGROUND AND EXTRA STUFF:
YAYY, this took actually so long lol, i did the coloring and background and etc all TODAY LOL, i was at school from 6:30 to like 12:30... yeah ik... the background just took extremely long, i was listening to all the mlp songs while drawing and was on the verge of tears because im so nostalgic and i was thinking out the first time i heard these songs and was introduced to these characters, and how i dreamed of becoming an animator and making a show as great as mlp one day, and... i realized that im in school animating, and... im doing a good job at it too? it sounds corny or whatever but it was all hitting me and making cry??? and that was so weird because i ONLY cry when sad, i never cry of joy or nostalgia, but idk i felt so tearyyyyyyyy. but yeah anyways LMAOO i wanted the background to be neopolitan colors because duh, and for the dress store i was accidently inspired by mlp fits because i was listening to those songs lol. as for the heart, i love adding sparkles or hearts to my art, and i think the heart helps us get the characters feelings/emotions and i think its cute. also if you are wondering why shes walking in place, well.... that was the assignment LOL to make a walk cycle in place.
but yeah honestly i'm glad i got this done, after tackling rigginging in the summer i felt more comfortable animating but frame by frame always seemed way too much for me, and almost impossible, so i am happy that managed to actually do this!!! i feel a bit more confident now, of course i can improve, but i was expecting my first attempt to look like shite, but it actually doesnt look bad!?? and that makes me feel happy so yaaa
but yeah i hope you enjoyed this blog post <3
